Lingenfelter's Cross-Province Tour Reveals People Throughout Saskatchewan Feel Ignored, Disrespected Print E-mail
3 September 2010

After spending over three months travelling the province, NDP Leader Dwain Lingenfelter says the common theme he hears from Saskatchewan families, businesses and communities is that they feel ignored and disrespected by the Wall government.  “Whether it’s bed closures, doctor shortages, power rate hikes or the slow and weak response to disaster assistance, people tell me the Wall government takes them and their communities for granted.”

“Health care is a huge issue across the province, and the Wall government simply hasn’t delivered on its promises,” said Lingenfelter.  “It’s not just cancelled funding for a Children’s Hospital in Saskatoon, it’s the bed closures and bidding wars for health care professionals in communities like Wawota. People feel like they’ve been promised great things, and received nothing from Wall.”

Wall Government Lies to Public About Hot Lunch Program for Needy Children: Education Minister Must R Print E-mail
3 September 2010

Today NDP MLA for Regina Walsh Acres, Sandra Morin, called on the Wall Government’s Education Minister to resign claiming Saskatchewan people were lied to when Minister Harpauer stated to media that she received a letter from Chili for Children program director Susan McArthur, but the letter did not state that the program was not feeding needy children.

“Although Minister Harpauer admitted she received the letter, it is clear she either did not take the time to read it, or she is highly incompetent. The letter from the program director clearly states, ‘At present, we are unable to start the lunch program as we do not have the financial means necessary to start the program for the 2010/2011 school year.’ What part of this sentence doesn’t the Minister understand?” asked Morin. “At present, even if a cheque from the Wall government was delivered today, the program would not be able to start until September 15th, with needy children going hungry for two weeks.”

Wall Gov't Must Put Saskatchewan People's Interests First Print E-mail
2 September 2010

NDP Leader Dwain Lingenfelter criticized Premier Wall today for failing to look out for the interests of the real potash owners - the people of Saskatchewan – by handing over the major decisions about the future of this strategic resource to Stephen Harper and the Conference Board of Canada.

“This is another example of Premier Wall’s failed leadership,” said Lingenfelter. “The Wall Government should be out touring the province and talking to the people before making claims to speak on behalf of the Saskatchewan people.”

Wall Gov't Denies Needy Children Hot Lunch Program Print E-mail
2 September 2010

NDP MLA for Regina Walsh Acres, Sandra Morin, blasted the Wall Government today for denying children in Regina’s North Central area a hot lunch. Morin said that Chili for Children, a non-profit organization, supplies free hot lunches every Monday, Wednesday and Friday to approximately 1300 students per week delivered through five schools, and said that the Wall Government has failed to come through on its promised funding for the program, which resulted in many of Regina’s inner-city children going without lunch during their first week of school this year.

Premier Wall named in $ 3 million Lawsuit: Must Return Control of Funds Print E-mail
31 August 2010

The Saskatchewan NDP’s House Leader today denounced Premier Brad Wall’s latest legal stalling tactic in the PC Trust Fund Conspiracy Case, and called on him to return control of $3 million to the Progressive Conservative Party of Saskatchewan.

“Just weeks ago, the province’s highest court unanimously rejected the Sask Party’s last effort to have Premier Wall and Deputy Premier Krawetz’s names dropped from the lawsuit launched by the PC Party,” said Yates. “Wall’s latest manoeuvre is nothing more than a ploy to further drag out a case that has been ongoing for nearly three years,” said Yates, noting that the legal effort to allow the PC Party of Saskatchewan to have access to the Trust Fund established for its benefit has been going on since before the last election in 2007.

Post-Secondary Students Struggle with Low Vacancy, Higher Rent and Higher Tuition Print E-mail
25 August 2010

NDP Advanced Education critic Cam Broten sharply criticized the Wall Government’s lack of progress on affordable housing options, citing the long wait lists of students unable to find affordable rental units. Broten pointed out that under the Wall Government, post-secondary students and their families have faced a rising cost of living, with increases to both tuition and rent well above the rate of inflation.

“Students from the University of Regina, University of Saskatchewan, First Nations University of Canada and SIAST are all clamouring to get their names on wait lists for residence openings and are unable to find quality affordable housing. This only highlights the obvious need for more housing and the Wall Government’s failure to address those needs,” Broten said.
